R.I.P. Hip-Hop Pioneer Lovebug Starski
It saddens us to have to report that Bronx Hip-Hop pioneer, Lovebug Starski, has passed away at the age of 57-years-old. The rapper and D.J. is hailed as being one of the most instrumental artists in the birth of rap, even claiming to have coined the phrase "Hip-Hop."
“That was one of my rhymes when I would get stuck for words and I used to go ‘hip, hop, the hip, the hip, hip the hopping.’ You know it was just a nursery rhyme: nursery rhymes that coincided with the music and that’s the God's honest truth.”
On Thursday, Kevin 'Lovebug Starski' Smith succumbed to a heart attack in Las Vegas and will be remembered for his contributions to the structure of a whole genre and culture. Starski is most known for released songs like “Gangster Rock” in 1979 and “Dancin’ Party People” in 1981.
RIP to a legend, Lovebug Starski.
